Doctor Joe O’Loughlin on ITV’s new show “The Suspect” is former Walkinstown resident and Clondalkin native Aidan Turner.

The actor attended St MacDara’s Community College in Templeogue and Firhouse Community College before graduating from the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin in 2004.

Turner’s character has a perfect life as a psychologist with an incredible family, high media exposure, and a publishing deal.

However, her life begins to be called into question when her opinion is required in a case where a young woman has been found in a shallow grave in West London Cemetery.

The actor said he was “delighted to take on the complex and demanding role of Joseph O’Loughlin, a man with so much to give but so much to lose, and a darker side hidden.”

Based on Michael Robotham’s novel “Suspect”, the five-part series is a psychological thriller set to be filmed in London in the fall of 2021 and released in 2022.

The production will be produced by Natasha Romaniuk and specific episodes will be directed by James Strong and Camilla Strøm Henriksen.

Turner’s successful career has included his performances as Kíli in “The Hobbit” trilogy, Ross Poldark in “Poldark” and Leonardo da Vinci in Amazon Prime’s “Leonardo” series.

He has won a plethora of awards, including in the categories of Best Male Newcomer, Champion of Drama and Best TV Actor.
