Zubair was among 99 passengers aboard Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Airbus A-320 plane which plunged into a densely populated residential area near the airport on Friday, killing 97 people, including nine children.
Flight PK-8303 from Lahore crashed in the Jinnah Garden area near Model colony in Malir on Friday afternoon, a few minutes before landing at Karachi‘s Jinnah International Airport. Eleven people on the ground were injured.
“The plane was arriving very well, 8303 from PIA. My seat was 8F. When it reached Jinnah International Airport, the pilot announced that ‘we are landing, fasten your seat belts.” We fastened the seat belts. . Upon landing, the plane rocked three times. Then it came onto the runway and stayed there for a brief moment. “The pilot then flew the plane for 10 or 15 minutes. Then he announced again that the plane was landing. When that announcement was made, I looked down and he told me. looked like we were (flying over) the cantonment of Malir (area, where it was supposed to land. Then, when it was about to land, suddenly… (it crashed) “, he said.
Zubair also made a statement on Friday in which he said the plane began to wobble as it approached Karachi airport.
“The next moment there was a serious accident and I passed out,” Zubair said, adding that when he woke up there was “smoke everywhere.”
Hospital administration said Zubair suffered minor injuries and was currently under treatment in the burns department.
The only other survivor of the crash was the managing director of the Bank of the Punjab, Zafar Masud.
He spoke to his mother on the phone and informed her of his condition.
Masud suffered fractures to his hip and collarbone, hospital administration Darul Sehat said, adding that there were no burn marks on his body, only scratches.
According to the hospital administration, Masud’s CT scan was performed and his condition is safe.
