Bareilly: A 22-year-old college student, who claimed to be pregnant, suffered burns after her ‘boyfriend’ allegedly threw an acidic liquid on her following a marriage argument. The victim, who belongs to a minority community, insisted on getting married, which infuriated the accused who is of another faith.
The girl was admitted to the Budaun District Hospital with severe burns. And the accused was convicted of rape and acid attack on Thursday.
Chief Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sankalp Sharma said: “The victim is a BSc student and was on his way home when the accused arrested her in a secluded location and threw chemicals at her. She was rushed to hospital. The young girl said that when she insisted on getting married, while she was pregnant, the youngster threw the liquid on her.
“Based on her complaint, we registered an FIR under sections 376 of the IPC (rape), 326-A (punishment for acid attack), 343 (wrongful imprisonment), 313 (causing false layer without consent) and 504 (intentional insult) against Mahesh. Pal alias Bantou. The accused is on the run but we will arrest him soon, ”said the SSP.
District hospital emergency doctor Dr NK Singh said: “The victim was brought to hospital by two female constables on Wednesday evening. She said that an acid-like liquid had been thrown at her. Looking at her condition, we started her treatment and admitted her to the hospital. She suffered burns near her shoulders and arms, but her condition is stable.
