The Darien Arts Center offers several summer camps and courses for ages 3 and up that include visual arts, dance, music and martial arts. Come to the DAC for a week of fun in the arts! Each day, campers will have an art class, followed by a music class, and end with an exciting dance class to unleash their energy and creativity. This camp is a wonderful way to introduce little campers to the arts. Each art class will showcase different art forms, using different materials and at the end of each week campers will have a number of different projects to take home.
Cartoon / Comic Camp
July 12-July 15
In this camp session, each student will create their own short comic strip. They will learn to illustrate the comic and write the accompanying text. Students will create their own characters, with an emphasis on facial expressions, body language and the use of color. At the end of the course, each student will have their own comic strip to take home.
Children love the printmaking workshop

Engraving is a blast! In this 4-day afternoon camp, artist Nancy McTague-Stock will show middle school students the many ways artists can create prints. Nancy will also teach and guide the students in the use of a real printing press! At the end of the last semester, students will bring home lots of take-home and framing projects.

Monday-Friday: 10:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m. (20 min break)
Using fictional worlds from literature (or movies) as inspiration, for example Middle-earth / Midgaard by Tolkien, King Arthur’s Camelot, C, Narnia by S. Lewis or the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the participants will be invited to let their imaginations run wild, and to design and produce a color map of their own unique and mythical land, kingdom or empire! In the process, we will learn the elements, styles, scripts and artistic techniques of old world cartography. Think of sea dragons and labyrinths! At the end of the week, each camper will leave with a finished map of their ideal world in the form of a parchment.

This course is aimed at all levels and will focus on equipment adapted to the rank while working on effort, respect and self-control.
