Namor the Sub is a historical Marvel character that fans can’t wait to finally see in the MCU. Although rights issues have kept him out of the franchise for years, it is widely believed that the King of Atlantis will debut in very soon. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. And while no plot details have yet been revealed on the highly anticipated sequel, it’s easy to see how the monarch of one Secret Realm might cross over with another Secret Realm like Wakanda.
The big question is, however, who should play Namor? Well, digital artist Mizuri has now shared this epic piece of fan art that imagines The Hobbit star Luke Evans as the anti-hero. This is far from the first time the Welsh actor has been linked to the role, of course, and this illustration proves once again why he would be a perfect fit for the role.

As you may have seen, the latest reports actually indicated Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta is in talks to play Namor. Huerta’s apparent casting caused a stir online, however, generating a few grunts from those who wanted a more familiar name as a character, like Evans. But assuming Huerta’s news is accurate, it’s easy to imagine the latter landing a different gig in the MCU somewhere, especially given his ongoing partnership with Disney (he’s set to reprise Gaston in a The beauty and the Beast TV show).
One of Marvel’s very first creations, Namor has been portrayed in different ways over the years, sometimes acting like a hero, sometimes like a villain, and other times sitting somewhere in the middle. He’s also notably the Universe’s First Mutant, so his arrival could get the incoming X-Men off the ground. These elements should help differentiate Namor from Aquaman on the same – and more famous – DC theme.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is preparing to begin filming very soon ahead of its scheduled release on July 8, 2022.
