The weekend has arrived. And what better way to start than to let the stress of the week wear off by watching one of those beautiful movies airing on TV tonight.

Below, JOE has selected the best options for this evening.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – Film Four – 9 p.m.

The first of three Lord of the Rings trilogy prequels, the film sees a wonderful Martin Freeman playing a younger version of Hobbit Bilbo Baggins. He embarks on an adventure with a group of dwarves to reclaim their mountain home and the gold it contains from the fierce dragon Smaug.

With a duration of almost three hours, An Unexpected Journey is definitely too long. That said, a lot of things are light and fun, and anyone who just wants to spend more time in Middle-earth will have a great time.

Dead Calm – Classic Turner Movies – 9 p.m.

In this biting ’80s thriller, an Australian couple (Sam Neill and then-newcomer Nicole Kidman) take a sailing trip to the Pacific to forget about a terrible accident.

On the high seas, they encounter a ship with a survivor (Billy Zane) who is not at all what it seems.

Sicario 2: Soldado – Virgin Media One – 9 p.m.

Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin return in this sequel to the excellent thriller Sicario, playing CIA agents who take drastic action to eradicate the drug cartels operating along the US-Mexico border.

While it might not be as strong as the original, superb performances, muscular action sets, and a dark, labyrinthine storyline make this sequel worth looking for.

Swimming with the men – RTÉ Two – 9:30 p.m.

This British comedy centers on a man (Gavin and Stacey’s Rob Brydon) suffering from a midlife crisis who finds new meaning in his life on an all-male, middle-aged amateur synchronized swimming team.

True Lies – E4 – 10 p.m.

This James Cameron action comedy centers around a secret agent (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who sees his life turned upside down when he finds out that his wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) may be having an affair as terrorists introduce nuclear warheads to the States. United.

Seemingly the first movie to cost $ 100 million, the mix of high-octane action True Lies and marital hijinks turns out to be oddly fun. That said, the late Bill Paxton steals the show as a hilarious and shady used car salesman.

Avengers: Age of Ultron – BBC One – 10:45 p.m.

Have you become as obsessed with WandaVision as JOE? If so, why not revisit the movie where the MCU adventures of Wanda Maximoff and Vision began.

It follows – Horror Channel – 11:10 p.m.

One of the most terrifying horrors of recent years, the teens of a city of Detroit are pursued by a form-changing supernatural entity who follows them wherever they go.

It Follows has one of those ingenious horror premises in that every time someone is in the background of a shot it induces stress.

The Inbetweeners Movie – Channel 4 – 12:10 p.m.

Socially struggling teenage friends (“Ooh, friend!”) Jay, Neil, Simon and Will take a vacation to Crete in this big-screen spin-off of the popular sitcom.
