Week 2 was not favorable for the running back position, so fantasy football owners were probably relieved to see Week 3 go by with fewer injuries. Thanks to a healthier week, fancy owners won’t lose out on so many options, although there are still concerns about the availability (or lack thereof) of Raheem Mostert (knee), Phillip Lindsay (toe) and Cam Akers (ribs) heading into this week. There were also two potential key injuries in Week 3 – one of which has a bigger impact on our Week 4 PPR RB ranking than our standard set.

The PPR rankings lost a regularly featured player to Tarik Cohen in what looks like a season-ending ACL injury. In his absence, David Montgomery intends to get a little boost in PPR formats. Chicago’s new handcuff Cordarrelle Patterson is a converted wide receiver and is still listed as WR by most fantasy football sites, which is why he is not listed here. In short, there is no real replacement in the RB position for Cohen because of this.

Fortunately, the dissolution of some committees makes a big difference for RB owners in need. Darrell Henderson appears to be the Rams’ best running back and best defenseman, at least as long as Akers is out. Meanwhile, Devin Singletary is expected to be the Bills’ top receiver against Zack Moss once the latter returns from a toe injury. And new Panthers starter Mike Davis appears to be the undisputed leader of the Panthers. This at least gives us more clarity as fantasy owners seek viable RB2 and flex options.

As usual, fantasy owners should be looking to tackle some of the weaker showdowns on the slate. The Bills (vs. Raiders), Dolphins (vs. Seahawks) and Cardinals (vs. Panthers) all have good games, which means Singletary, Moss (if he’s healthy) and Myles Gaskin can do Trust the keys to start, sit ’em decisions while Kenyan Drake will be an RB1 this week. Gaskin is notably more valuable in PPR formats.

Meanwhile, the Chargers (@ Buccaneers) are having a tough game, so maybe now is a good time to seat portage-dependent Joshua Kelley, provided you have another solid flexible option. Chris Carson’s injury late in the game could create a pair of PPR sleepers in Seattle, as Carlos Hyde would likely handle most of the tackles between tackles and Travis Homer could have a PPR appeal against the Dolphins.
