CILLIAN Murphy has confirmed he tried for Batman before he was cast as the Scarecrow.
The Irish actor is famous in Batman Begins as Dr Jonathan Crane who wreaks havoc in Arkham Asylum.
But the Peaky Blinders star, 45, was considered for the role of the Caped Crusader and donned the famous costume for a screen test.
In a new interview, Murphy explained, “I don’t think I was close to landing this role.
“The only actor who was right about this role at the time, in my opinion, was Christian Bale, and he absolutely broke it.
“So for me it was just an experience and then it turned into something else.”
But the Corkman isn’t the first to almost land a major role to miss another star.
Here, BARRY MORAN takes a look at other Hollywood hits that could have been very different.
Pierce Brosnan – Batman
The Irish actor has taken on major roles throughout his career, including his stint as James Bond.
But the former 007 could have donned the Batsuit after being hired for the role ahead of Michael Keaton.
During the casting of Tim Burton’s Batman movie in 1989, the director actually approached Brosnan about the title role, but Pierce turned down the role because he “couldn’t really take it seriously.”
In a fan Q&A, he later explained, “I went to meet Tim Burton for the role of Batman.
“But I couldn’t really take it seriously, any man who wears his underpants outside his pants just can’t be taken seriously.
“It was my stupid point of view. But how wrong was I?
“Don’t get me wrong, because I love Batman and I grew up on Batman.”
Nicole Kidman – Notting Hill And Actually Love
KIDMAN recently starred alongside Hugh Grant in The Undoing, but the pair could have teamed up on screen years earlier.
The Australian actress has revealed that she wants to play Anna Scott in the classic romantic comedy Notting Hill.
Nicole revealed that she almost ended up in the beloved love of Christmas, in fact too.
She explained, “I think there was something where I think I really wanted a role… maybe I was going to do a little role in Love, Actually at some point.
” I do not remember. It wasn’t a big role. And I really wanted the role Julia Roberts played in Notting Hill.
Claire Danes – Titanic
CLAIRE Danes has revealed that she almost reunited with her teammate Romeo + Juliet Leonardo DiCaprio to play Rose in James Cameron’s Titanic.
The star revealed that there was “a strong interest” in her taking on the role, but that she has “no regrets” as she didn’t want this level of fame.
Claire admitted: “I remember after that movie came out (Romeo + Juliet) and it just went into another stratosphere.
“I went to the premiere of The Man in the Iron Mask, and when he entered the room the ground fell in his direction.
“Everyone in the room went up to him. It was a little scary. I think maybe I felt I was courting this. And I just couldn’t do it. I didn’t want it.
Russell Crowe – Lord of the Rings
OSCAR winner Russell Crowe is instantly recognizable for films such as Gladiator, The Insider and A Beautiful Mind.
But the filmmaker could have played Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, although he believes he was never given serious consideration despite the auditions.
Crowe explained previously: “I didn’t think [director] Peter Jackson really wanted me in the movie.
“I think he had to talk to me, because there was a point where everyone wanted me in everything… my instinct was that he had someone else in mind… and he should be on my mind. able to hire the actor he wants.
Emilia Clarkes -50 Shades of Gray
THE British star became a household name playing Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones.
But the actress snubbed the opportunity to portray Anastasia Steele in 50 Shades of Gray because she was fed up with being interviewed in nude scenes.
Emilia said, “Well, Sam [Taylor-Johnson, the director] is a magician. I love him, and I thought his vision was beautiful.
“But the last time I was naked on camera the [Game of Thrones] that was a long time ago, and yet it’s the only question I’m asked because I’m a woman.

Refusing the part that went to Harrison Ford, Al admitted, “I remember not getting it right. [the script] when I read it.
“I was in The Godfather. They didn’t care if I was right or wrong for the role, whether or not I could act.
