Have you thought about how God, our Heavenly Father and Creator of the world, is a God of unlimited oneness?

Just take a look at the world He created: vast mountain ranges; vast deserts of dunes; dense forests next to pristine lakes; floating ice giants roaming the sea; animals ranging from giraffes and sharks to spiders and eagles. Every sunrise and sunset is a unique moment and there have never been two identical snowflakes among the millions and billions who have fallen.

In a study done a few years ago, a researcher said “it’s safe to say that the possible number of snow crystal shapes exceeds the estimated number of atoms in the known universe.”

We are surrounded by unlimited and infinite uniqueness.

What does this say about us as humans? Where do we stand in this boundless uniqueness and creativity? The Bible says that “we are his work, created in Jesus Christ for good works, which God has prepared in advance so that we may walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10, New American Standard Bible)

First, God created you. It is he who brought you together in your mother’s womb. You are no accident. You were made on purpose, for a purpose. The Psalmist exclaims:

“Certainly you have made my mind and my heart; you woven me in my mother’s womb. I will thank you because your actions are awesome and incredible. You knew me well; my bones were not hidden from you, when I was made in secret and sewn together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me when I was in the womb. All the days that have been ordained to me were recorded in your scroll before any one of them existed (Psalm 139: 13-18).

Second, you are his handiwork. The finish is not a small word. It means a great work of art, a masterpiece, something that has been created with great effort, attention to detail and care.

Think of the great works of Shakespeare, Michelangelo, Van Gogh or maybe Steve Jobs. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” is in my opinion a true work of art. The big-screen portrayal of Peter Jackson captures the wonder, beauty, struggle and sacrifice quite well. Fill in the blank with heartwork that takes your breath away, then remember this passage says you are the great work of God.

You are his great work of art and his masterpiece. His best ideas and efforts have gathered in you. He was careful in his planning and preparation, weaving your bones with a steady hand and a watchful eye, and poured his own breath into your lungs to bring you to life.

Because God is infinite, his creativity and his uniqueness are infinite, so it goes without saying that his creation will be infinitely unique. Each of us is unique and different from the others. Fingerprints, DNA, and facial recognition are just a few of the ways we are all special. You and I are each unique.

There was and never will be but one of you. Have you noticed how limited editions are always worth more? You are of great worth and worth as a person who has been carefully designed by a loving and caring God. Your worth is not based on what you do or don’t do. You are valuable because you were created unique, special, one of a kind.

You are a unique, carefully designed and meticulously crafted work of art.

However, God has not finished making a masterpiece of you; in some ways, this is just the beginning. He has so much more for you than you might imagine. Let him continue to work in your life, to continue his writing, weaving, sculpting and building who you are.

If we let God direct us, if we let God take care of the writing of history, of building and staging our lives, just think of the works of art that we might see.
