Elijah Wood claimed that an orc in the Lord of the Rings was modeled after disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein.
Wood made the reveal while interviewed by Dax Shepard on his Chair expert Podcast.
He told the comedian and actor: “One of the orc masks – and I remember it very well – was designed to look like Harvey Weinstein like some kind of madman.”
Wood, who played Frodo Baggins in the film trilogy, added, “I think it’s good to talk about it now, the guy is fucking incarcerated. F *** him.
Weinstein’s company, Miramax, was the original holder of the film rights to the JRR Tolkein series of books, but the company and director Peter Jackson were unable to agree on budgets and the number of films in the series.
Miramax allowed Jackson to take the film to other studios if he could do it in a weekend and if the other studio agreed to do all three films at the same time. Weinstein didn’t expect him to be able to strike a deal.
New Line Cinema has agreed to make the trilogy which grossed billions of dollars at the box office. As a result of the deal and the success of the films, Weinstein made millions.
Weinstein was once one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers before being convicted of numerous sexual assault charges. He was then sentenced to 23 years in prison and is awaiting further charges.
