Gearbox chairman Randy Pitchford has revealed that he presented three “concepts” for The Lord of the Rings video games, but none of them saw the light of day, which is why he is particularly happy to ‘have been able to announce a fantastic game in the form of Little Tina’s Wonderland.

Posting on Twitter, the Borderlands studio director revealed that his Lord of the Rings concept game pitches came “way before the movies,” in 1999. He said every pitch failed, but he didn’t share any other information about these games.

With Wonderlands, Pitchford will finally release a fantasy first-person action RPG game. “For me, Wonderlands is the culmination of this 20+ year dream,” he said.

In another tweet, Pitchford thanked his team at Gearbox and publisher 2K Games for the support they have shown to help create Wonderlands.

“I’m grateful to the folks at Gearbox who laid the groundwork for the opportunity within the Borderlands universe, the incredible management and development team who built the game, the incredible cast lending their talent to give it life, and the 2K Games partnership and support, ”he said.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands arrives in early 2022 for console and PC, and it features a celebrity voice cast that includes Andy Samberg, Wanda Sykes, and Will Arnett, in addition to Ashly Burch returning again to voice Tiny Tina.

This was just one of the big announcements for Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest event on June 10. There was also a new trailer for Elden Ring and the announcement of Death Stranding Director’s Cut.
