Incredibly young Elijah Wood and John Thornton wearing what the '80s confused with 2015 fashion in Back to the Future II

Elijah Wood has had a long career—City of sin, Faculty, that of Peter Jackson The Lord of the Rings to name a few, but there is one entry at the start of his CV that we will never forget.

Wood played “Video Game Boy” in Back to the future II in a brief but classic scene. Entering the Café of the 80s — in 2015—Michael j fox‘s Marty McFly notices two young boys plugging a arcade game called Savage shooter. They don’t know how to play it so he gives them an expert demonstration. “You mean you have to use your hands?Wood said, off camera, before the other boy (John Thornton) continued with, “It’s like a baby toy.” They both shake their heads in disgust and leave Marty deeply confused.

Talking with the Deadline Video Series The movie that lit my fuse, Wood was asked what movies had interested him in acting. Growing up in Iowa, the actor told them there was nothing specific it depended on. “The story goes, my mother saw an advertisement when I was five years old. I had a lot of energy and she thought that would be a great outlet for her energy. But he named a few films he saw early in his life and which he has vivid memories of. “I remember seeing Gremlins When I was young, Back to the future, the original Back to the future was something I saw as a child and loved …The Goonies. But I never watched these movies thinking that I could never have anything to do with them or that it would be a calling for me.

Although he made his commercial debut, his first film role turned out to be Back to the future II. “It was crazy because it took what I understood about cinema and put it in this very real realm. And I think it can actually sort of be the first time i think i could have referred to that based on what I saw, what I was physically do ”, he explained. “Which doesn’t mean that I didn’t understand the work I had done before in the ads as such, you know, an acting role that people would see. But when he refers to a movie that I grew up watching and suddenly I am in this environment, was completely mind-blowing. And so that might have been the first time it kind of recorded me what it was and that it could be a lifetime I guess.

A life indeed. Do you remember when you first realized it was Wood in that little role after he got more famous??
