There are 10 factions in The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War. They are each made up of well or poorly aligned characters from movies, books and games. Choosing one really depends on preference. You can choose to roam Middle-earth as a dwarf, elf, orc, or soldier from Rohan or Gondor, but it’s entirely up to you. Here are the factions you can join when researching the One Ring.
Mordor is where it all began. Sauron forged the Ring of Power in the fires of Mount Doom to dominate all of Middle-earth. The faction fights to maintain control of Barad -ūr, Núrnen Sea Dungeon, Ephel Dúath Dungeon, Cirith Ungol Tower, Black Gate, Minas Morgul, and Mount Doom.
Angmar is ruled by the Witch-King who has made things quite difficult for the Fellowship in the the Lord of the Rings. It is located in the Misty Mountains and includes orcs and Nazgûl in its ranks. The faction owns Carn Dûm, Ettenmoors Keep, and Forodwaith Keep.
The soldiers of the Rhûn are called Orientals and come from the desert region of Middle-earth. They hold the lands of Kineland, the Great Keep of the Rhûn and the Hills of the Rhûn.
Isengard is made up of the mighty Uruk-hai warriors. The most famous of all – Lurtz – played a major role in the films and killed Boromir. The faction controls Orthanc, Enedwaith Keep, and Dunfearan.
Lothlórien is home to the elves of Middle-earth. The faction protects Caras Galadhorn, Elvenking’s Halls, and Rivendell. Champions and Heroes include Elrond and Galadriel.
Erebor has been featured extensively in The Hobbit. The faction gathers dwarves from Iron Hills Dungeon, Erebor, Carnen Vale Dungeon, Dale, and Lake-Town to attempt to find the One Ring. Dwalin is a champion of Erebor.
Rohan includes human warriors from Edoras, Helm’s Deep, Eastemnet Dungeon, and Dunharrow. The Cavaliers of Rohan are among the soldiers fighting for the faction.
Gondorian soldiers protect Minis Tirith, Dol Amroth, and Pelargir. Aragorn and Faramir fight for Gondor.
The Lindon faction oversees the Gray Havens and Forlindon Keep.
Arnor controls many territories in western Middle-earth, including Annúminas, Cardolan Keep, Rhudaur Keep, Fornost, Bree, and Weathertop.
